Flow & Hold Yoga Class – Five Parks Yoga

Per your requests… another hold and flow yoga class – a little more flow than hold, as the postures that are held, are held with options for variations. This class is a popular request and I imagine that the combination of the two styles appeals to people who love flow, but want to be challenged with some holds AND for those who love holds but want to be challenged with some flow. It really is the best of both worlds – working your body and mind in multiple ways. After pranayama and warm up, the class gets moving with three rounds of sun salutations. Poses sprinkled throughout, include familiar postures, which are held statically and with variations. I hope you enjoy this new yoga class! Let me know what you think in the comments!

Mama Earth Prenatal Yoga Flow – 45 mins – For 2nd Trimester

You don’t have to be pregnant to enjoy this grounding vinyasa practice.

I didn’t actually set out to make a prenatal video — My almost-five-months pregnant body just so happened to want to move in certain ways today:

Close to the ground. Mindful. Interior. Focused. An emphasis on making space in the torso. Maintaining strength without overdoing it.

If you ARE pregnant:

1. I do Ardha Matsyendrasana twists here because my belly isn’t compleeeeeetely in the way — yet. If you’re not digging this twist, one modification is to twist gently in the other direction. Every person will tolerate twisting differently, so back off if you’re not sure how you’re liking it.

2. Some prenatal instruction recommends taking it easy on the back bending. I’m of the USE-YOUR-INTUITION school of prenatal instruction: If my body is signaling “Yes,” then I am trusting its wisdom. So far, heart opening feels nothing short of divine even though I definitely have to take it slower and less deep than when I’m not preg. You’ll see some gentle backbending invitations here — I hope you’ll (always) do only what you’re body is saying a big resounding YYEESSS to.

3. I do a wide-legged fold here. It is possible to overstretch, especially the groin area, if you are pregnant. Please take it slowly and only do what your body is craving. Injuries are never fun, but they’re especially not fun at such a sensitive time.

4. Savasana. I foolishly plopped on the ground in a reclined position here without consideration for the mommas who are no longer lying on their backs. If reclining on your back is uncomfortable, do not do it!
Pull out the pillows! Elevate your upper body or even lie on your side, but do give yourself some sweet down time a la savasana.

Creative Vinyasa Flow with Flamingo Yoga Class – Five Parks Yoga

This one-hour yoga class strengthens and stretches the entire body. While this class emphasizes binds and balances, this class will appeal to you if you are looking for a vinyasa class that includes poses that focus on arm strength, shoulder opening, hip compressions and balancing poses. The “peak pose” featured in this yoga class is Flamingo pose, which has not yet been in any of my classes! I hope you enjoy this class and the scenery and sounds of the Costa Rica Yoga Spa!

Reset & Recharge Yoga Class – Five Parks Yoga

This “Reset and Recharge” yoga class is inspired by the change of season and the start of the school year. There are moments in time that we lose our commitment to self-care or connection to self and a “reset” is needed to get us back on track. This yoga class offers a variety of postures and flows which require you to be present during the intense moments and gentle in the soft moments. After pranayama and a spinal warm-up, the class builds with Sun Salutations, standing flow, balance postures and then winds down with nice deep hip stretches and twists. This yoga class is a “complete,” but shorter vinyasa flow, which includes a full warm up and a flow with strength and balance postures, chaturangas and more. The class includes transitions in a circular flow. This class is great for you if you want a complete flow with less than an hour.
